Photo Opportunity: Patients as they receive their new pets and the joy the pets bring.
One quick look as the patient pets the cat in her lap and you would think it was a real pet. It purrs, rubs it’s face and even rolls over. But upon closer inspection you will see that it is in fact a robotic pet. To the patient, however, it is providing the warmth and affection of a real animal. Pet therapy is a proven technique for reducing anxiety in Alzheimer’s patients and improving mood. These hypoallergenic pets are able to provide the same therapy as real pets, but without the cost and responsibility. Having pets on-demand at the Specialized Adult Day Center will be an integral part of the daily cognitive therapeutic activities that are provided to each patient
