Looking back:

February 24th was picture perfect day to enjoy a Jewel in our community, the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Thousands of visitors came to the Nature Center for its annual Sea Turtle Day as they celebrated sea turtles.

It was a fun-filled family day of environmental education; packed with exciting things to see and do, including presentations, face painting, aquarium feedings, children’s theater, guided tours, crafts and exhibitors.

The Gumbo Limbo Sea Turtle Rehabilitation center treats about 100 sea turtles every year, each with their own specific ailment. Dr. Maria Chadam, the center’s veterinarian, spoke about some of the most interesting cases she has handled. Guest also got a chance to meet Luna, the center’s green sea turtle ambassador! Luna was available for photos, hugs, and high-flippers.

Don’t miss the Sea Coast Toast 2018 to be held on Saturday March 24, 2018 6 – 10PM. It all happens at the Boca Country Club (17751 Boca Club Blvd, Boca Raton FL 33487) where you will enjoy cocktails, dinner, live music, dancing, and a live and silent auction. All of this is done to fundraise and sustain and enhance the education, conservation, and research programs at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and around the local community.

On February 25th, Boca Raton’s Jewish Community came together as one to remember the 17 innocent victims at Stoneman Douglas HS and the celebrate Purim at the Jewish Federation of SPBC. It was a great family friendly day of fun and rides.

#ParklandStrong fundraising was held at Frank & Dino’s, Sunday afternoon. It was a great success. Lots of money was raised with tremendous community involvement. Thank you to Carlo Vaccarezza and Nick for hosting the event. Vaccarezza’s two sons, Nick and Mike, are both students at Stoneman Douglas High School.

The Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival opened on Sunday evening at The Polo Club of Boca Raton. Special guest Nati Dinnar, the film’s Creator and Producer was at the World Premier of his movie, RESCUE BUS 300. This year the Festival has expanded to 3 weeks, presenting a compelling mix of 40 films about people and cultures around the globe – all with a Jewish theme or connection.

To view a list of the films being presented, go to: http://bocajff.org/the-festival/films/

It’s official – we cut the ribbon on February 28th. There’s a new gateway to the City of Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach State College and the Boca Raton Airport (BCT) with the opening of the Spanish River interchange on I-95. Access translates into being a more attractive destination. Over 20 years from paper to reality. Another beneficiary of the construction will be users of the El Rio Trail which, as a result of this project, will not need to go onto Yamato Rd to traverse the pathway.

Coming up:

It’s the final weekend for The Festival of the Arts. Don’t miss Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & friends present an evening of music, poetry and prose on Friday March 2rd at 7:30PM. The Festival of the Arts concludes on Sunday March 4th with a special presentation of ET the Extra-Terrestrial. As in years past, the film will be accompanied by The Symphonia Boca Raton & Constatine Kitsopoulos, conductor. The movie presentation begins at 6PM. Tickets to the Festival of the Arts Boca (designed to promote the cultural arts and to enrich the quality of life of the residents of Boca Raton) are available for these events (and others) atwww.FestivalOfTheArtsBoca.org or through the box office at 866.571.2787

Grab your shopping bags and head on over to the Boca Raton Greenmarket held every Saturday, 8AM to 1PM, through May 13, 2018. Now in its 21st year of operation, the Market takes place at the south end of Royal Palm Place in the Monument Piazza parking area located at the intersection of S Federal Hwy and SE Mizner Blvd. Parking available adjacent to Greenmarket vendor site.

On March 4th the Boating & Beach Bash welcomes People with Disabilities, America’s largest free fun-day for people with special needs, their families and their caregivers.

The Bash reaches out to embrace the estimated 20% of Florida residents who live with physical and/or intellectual challenges–disabilities that are seen or unseen. In Palm Beach County however, 25% have a disability, among the highest number in the nation.

A true celebration of diversity, the Boating & Beach Bash demonstrates how a community can honor and salute those among us who struggle each day with unimaginable challenges. Many of the guests are people often overlooked by society. Their challenges place them outside the mainstream, and many of them are never seen at the mall, the movies or even at a fast food restaurant. Once a year they are invited into the sunshine for a joy-filled day that celebrates their diversity and embraces them as the unique individuals they are.

Each March, young and old alike, come together with their families and caregivers to beautiful Spanish River Park in Boca Raton, where they are treated as world-class VIP’s, from the moment they arrive. The setting for the Bash is Spanish River Park, located at 3001 North Ocean Boulevard (State Road A1A). The park, Boca’s most beautiful setting for an event like the Bash, is set between the Atlantic Ocean, with its pristine beaches on one side, and the scenic Intracoastal Waterway on the other. The heart of the park boasts grassy picnic areas, covered shelters, walkways and playgrounds—all nestled under a canopy of lush, tropical trees.

EVERYTHING is free from the moment our guests reach the park. Admission, parking, lunch, boat rides, the concerts and all Bash related activities are FREE and always will be.

Then, that evening, March 4th, grab your bell-bottoms, platform shoes and your bling! Join Unicorn Children’s Foundation for a fun-filled evening of silent and live auctions, amazing dinner, delicious drinks, and of course boogieing the night away at this Disco & Diamonds themed Gala! Channel your inner John Travolta, and help support kids and young adults with special needs excel in their communities.

On March 7th join the YMCA of South Palm Beach County for a morning of encouragement and motivation as they host their largest fundraiser of the year – the 16th Annual Inspiration Breakfast. This year’s event will feature Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes, Mark Richt as their keynote speaker.
