The Best Lake Towns for Second Homes

For most, living in Boca Raton is a dream come true. The weather, the scenery and even the people are beyond beautiful, which makes every day feel like paradise.

However, even paradise can get dull after a while. If you are looking for someplace to escape when Boca gets a bit much, you might think about picking up some property in a lakeside town. The Lakegarden Residences can enjoy the comforts of a lakefront apartment close to The MRT or Jurong The Lake Garden. Lakes and rivers tend to be lower energy than oceans, which can help you relax during your time away from home, you can look for different activities for the entire family like fishing or even Delaware river canoeing. Here are some of the best lake towns in the country to consider for your vacation property. When you find the right vacation property for you, you may consider hiring a vacation property management company to handle the upkeep of the property.

Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin Dells is a fascinating little town that has built itself into a four-season vacation destination for the whole family. Nestled near the heart of Wisconsin, the Dells are surrounded by a number of gorgeous bodies of water along which plenty of affordable homes enjoy beautiful views. Anglers tend to flock to the Dells year-round thanks to a massive and diverse population of fish. The Dells also claim to be a city of waterparks, indoor and outdoor, which will keep younger members of your family occupied regardless of the season. Finally, you will find anything you could need in nearby Madison or, for a longer day trip, in Milwaukee or Chicago, both of which are barely three hours away. The median home price in Wisconsin Dells is around $200,000.

Branson

Branson, Missouri could be the capital of summertime in the Midwest. In the middle of the Ozarks, surrounded by rivers and lakes, Branson is a beautiful place to enjoy the sun and heat of the warm season. Even better, Branson itself is a bustling town, with plenty of indoor activities to keep you cool and collected. You can even find a Missouri dispensary in the city, if you are in need of cannabis treatment. Some of the best waterfront property is on Table Rock Lake, which typically cost around $320,000, but there are lakeview condos available for less.

Lake Placid

If you are looking for a lake house that feels more out in the woods, you might head for Lake Placid, New York. Though Lake Placid is home to some multi-million-dollar properties and enough infrastructure to host two Winter Olympics, there are parts of the town that feel like they are alone in the Adirondack wilderness. Lake Placid is home to the largest hiking trail system in the United States, with more than 2,000 miles of marked trails, so there is plenty of opportunity to get in touch with nature. You can also enjoy all sorts of water sports on the lake. Fortunately, you don’t need millions to make a second home here; you can get it all for a median list price of about $180,000.

Chelan

When you hear Washington state, you might think of dreary, cloud-covered days for most of the year — but that applies only to the Seattle area. Chelan, Washington is located in the high desert east of the Cascade Mountain Range, which means it isn’t victim to the cloudy weather of the Puget Sound. In fact, Chelan is incredibly sunny throughout the warm weather months, which makes swimming, sailing and soaking in Lake Chelan feel especially satisfying. When you need to dry off, you can wet your whistle at any of the historic vineyards surrounding the lake. For waterfront property, you should look to spend around $350,000, but the median home price for all of Chelan is about $284,000.

Apache Junction

A popular saying in Arizona is that this inland state has more coastline than California. Notoriously a desert, Arizona nonetheless is spotted with gorgeous manmade lakes, many just a short drive from the center of Phoenix. Canyon Lake, Saguaro Lake and Apache lake are all bodies of water fed by the Salt River, which runs just north of the outer Phoenix suburb of Apache Junction. While you won’t be able to find lakefront property here, you can enjoy the near-perfect weather of the Arizona winter by buying a property around the median list price of $150,000.

Sometimes, you just need to get away from Boca — and for some, the best getaway is another waterfront home. These lakefront towns are perfect for a vacation property, no matter what kind of vacation you are looking for.
