West Boca Shadowood To Get Remodeled

By: Linda Santacruz

Regal Shadowood 16 is ready for a makeover.

According to Boca Raton Tribune columnist Barry Epstein, the old movie theater that sits on Glades Road and 441 is set to undergo a luxury renovation, which will include reclining seats, new commercial roofing, new plumbing systems, a clean hvac system and much more!

Managers at Regal Entertainment Shadowood 16 confirmed renovations but did not provide any details.

“I cannot tell you more than what you already know,” said Shadowood Manager Carlo Pate.

Regal Shadowood 16 is famous in West Boca for being the Friday night hot spot for local teenagers.  But for the older community, it’s notorious for its unattractive exterior.

“It’s not the nicest theater. They have to work on their appearance,” said West Boca resident Isabel Elizondo. “But it’s good that they are thinking about [renovating] because it hasn’t changed in years.”

Through the recent years new and luxurious theaters have been popping up in different parts of Boca Raton.

Cinemark which sits on Airport and Glades Road is known for their “XD” screens.  “XD” stands for Extreme Digital which promises movie-goers a larger and brighter image compared to others.

The Living Room Theaters, located at Florida Atlantic University, serves you a meal while you kick back in a large leather seat. This cinema offers a sophisticated environment and only premieres indie films.

iPic, the newest theater located in Mizner Park, offers customers the ultimate movie-going experience. In addition to having a restaurant and lounge services, this movie house offers what is called premium-plus seating. For a price that ranges from $18 during the week and $24 on the weekends, moviegoers can enjoy their feature in a reclining seat with a pillow and blanket.

With all the new different options in town, some West Boca residents rather drive a little further east to catch a film.

West Boca native Ronny Cardona admits he doesn’t go to Shadowood as much as he used to.

“It was the spot to be at when I was young. The theater did not have an issue with a lot of teenagers hanging around making noise,” Cardona said. “Now that I’m older I prefer other theaters because they have more options, more space, better food and they are more pleasant to look at.”

Even though some prefer the fancier experience, Elizondo said she still goes to Shadowood because it’s close by, quick and affordable.

“I like Shadowood. You don’t have wait in long lines,” Elizondo said. “So it will be interesting to see what they do.”
