PROPEL Fourth Annual Golf Classic the Best Ever

More than 130 golfers helped Boca Raton-based non-profit PROPEL raise more than $185,000 at its fourth annual PROPEL Golf Classic held at Boca Country Club. The money is earmarked for programs, for special events, trips, scholarships and operating expenses of the organization called PROPEL (People Reaching Out to Provide Education and Leadership). PROPEL is committed to transforming one life at a time through educational support, promoting life skills and leadership in economically challenged communities.

“The event was a tremendous success,” said board president Matthew Kutcher. “The funds raised will go towards educational and other important programs for at-risk youth in our community.”

Founded nine years ago, PROPEL is young and growing organization that serves more than 60 area underprivileged and at-risk youth. The organization took a giant leap in November, 2012 when it moved from a small executive office on Palmetto Park Road to a storefront space at 2154 N. Dixie Highway, Boca Raton. The new space is four to five times larger than the old space, and it serves not only as an offices for PROPEL’s new executive director Nhu Nugyen and programs director Drew Gaut, it provides a common area where young people can gather or just hang out in a safe, friendly atmosphere.

Community participation was up more than 25 percent over 2011 in the 2012 PROPEL Golf Classic. Major community sponsors included CJM Construction, Alligator Landscaping, law Offices of Fred Fulmer, Halland Insurance, The Learning Experience, Marchelli’s Tile & Marble, MMP Painting, Simon and Sigalos P.A., Dr. Larry Kawa, Signet Management, Oppenheimer Funds, Franklin Street Insurance, Waste Management and Gerstin & Associates.

“We were so thrilled and amazed at the amount of community support we attracted for this deserving charity,” said PROPEL vice-president and event chairperson Ingrid Fulmer. “Each year the golf tournament nets more much-needed funds and attracts more players.”

The next major fundraising event for PROPEL is the fourth annual Fine Wine & K-9 event, coming, at Royal Palm Place 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 21.
