2019 Gumbo Limbo 10K Preparation Kicks Off to Support Sea Turtle Conservation and Rehabilitation

Boca Raton, FL – Preparation for the 2019 Gumbo Limbo 10K has kicked off with a goal to raise more than $40,000 – double the amount raised last year. In 2018, the race attracted 1,100 runners and raised approximately $21,000.

A non-competitive race to benefit the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation efforts, the Gumbo Limbo 10K aims to increase public awareness of coastal and marine ecosystems through research, education, preservation and conservation.

“Gumbo Limbo’s work to preserve the delicate ecosystems of our coastline is incredibly important,” said Bronwen de Villiers, Gumbo Limbo board member and event chair for the past three years. “Through the Gumbo Limbo 10K, we have a tremendous opportunity to support an organization that is vital to protecting the natural beauty and eco-balance of Boca Raton.”

To achieve the 2019 fundraising goal, the Gumbo Limbo 10K planning committee has been hand-picked for their skills and passion for the Boca Raton community. The 2019 committee includes Ann Brown, Bob Smoske, Sarah Evans, Kier Mellour, Alyssa Sebastian, Dr. Ron Rubin, Lisa Rosenof, Karen Marchione, Matt Linick and Stacey Mullins.

“After meeting Bronwen at the Junior League of Boca Raton’s Woman Volunteer of the Year Luncheon last fall, I was so impressed with her work for Gumbo Limbo,” said new committee member Ann Brown, founder and CEO of Boca Raton-based Saltability. “I am excited to help raise the bar for Gumbo Limbo and support our local sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation efforts.”

“With Ann’s energy and drive and the strength of the rest of our committee, we look forward to doubling our awareness and money raised to support mission and vision of Gumbo Limbo,” said de Villiers.

The 2019 event will be held on Sunday, April 14 beginning at 7:15 a.m. at the Spanish River Park. Pre-registered participants will be given a t-shirt and race finishers will be awarded metals. Runners may register online at www.gumbolimbo.org/gumbolimbo10k.
