The 4th Annual Miracle Chef, held on Friday, January 19th and hosted by Boca Helping Hands, was a wonderful evening filled with food, fun and a great message. Boca Helping Hands is building bridges as it provides a hand up, helping clients cross from basic need to self-sufficiency. The Miracle Chef event (along with all the meals BHH serves) would not be possible without their generous Food Recovery Partners. The evening was a huge success due, in part, the Event’s celebrity judges: Sal Saldana, General Manager of Town Center at Boca Raton, Renata Sans de Negri, President of Junior League of Boca Raton and Gourmet Chef Lawrence S. Demme.
There are a group of dedicated and philanthropic individuals who make it possible for the City of Boca Raton to boast it is the venue of choice for the Boca Raton Museum of Art. We call these people “Art Benefactors” and for this group of supporters, the Museum offered an opening reception of several new exhibits.

The streets of Mizner Park will once again be filled with a tremendous selection of art from across the country as the Boca Raton Museum of Art presents one-of-a-kind art, available for purchase including painting, sculptures, jewelry, fiber art, photography, ceramics, pottery, wood art, mixed media, graphic design, crafts, and art glass. Art Festival proceeds help support the Museum’s educational programs for children and youth. Admission is complimentary and free parking is available in the garages at Mizner Park. This juried art festival is presented by the Museum in partnership with the City of Boca Raton, Florida Palm Beach County Cultural Council, the Palm Beach County Tourism and Development Council, and General Growth Partners.
The Wings of Freedom exhibit landed in Boca Raton this week. This interactive presentation of vintage aircraft used in WWII is part of a traveling exhibit presented by the Collins Foundation. The Collings Foundation is a non-profit, Educational Foundation, founded in 1979. The purpose of the Foundation is to preserve and exhibit rare historical artifacts and to organize and support “living history” events that enable Americans to learn more about their heritage through direct participation.
The “Wings of Freedom Tour” has two goals: to honor the sacrifices made by our veterans that allow us to enjoy our freedom; and to educate the visitors, especially younger Americans, about our national history and heritage. The Foundation encourages people to tour the planes, talk to the veterans who come to visit the aircraft, and participate in a “flight experience”. In twenty-six years, the tour has made more than 2,900 visits to airports across the United States and Alaska. While the exact number of visitors is difficult to gauge, it is estimated that between 3.5 and 4 million people see these war birds annually.
The Palm Beach County Alliance for Mental Health held its 5th Annual Voice Awards Luncheon at Broken Sound County Club on Tuesday January 23rd. The awards honor the commitment, action and service in mental health of a diverse group of individuals within our community. The event was sponsored by Boca Raton’s Promise, led by Alliance Chair, Rita Thrasher, and Ed Frontera and hosted by IAM1.
Seven-time Emmy Award-winner (Pixar’s UP, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Lou Grant) Ed Asner was in Boca Raton on Tuesday afternoon. He performed at the Adolph & Rose Levis JCC Zinman Hall for a dramatic reading of the Soap Myth.
The Inner Circle New Year Kick opened the new year for Tri County Animal Rescue on Tuesday evening at the Pinon Grill Restaurant. Complimentary Cuisine and Drink Specials were enjoyed by all while raising funds for the TriCounty Animal Rescue new campus.
It’s Literacy Week in Boca Raton and members of the City Council have been visiting area schools to read to the children. On Wednesday I spent a special morning with some very special students at Boca Raton Elementary School in the Ben Carson Reading Room to celebrate. There’s nothing more fun than seeing the face of the children as we read stories and learned lessons.
The 2018 Greek Festival has begun and runs through January 28th. OPA! Get ready for a fun weekend of food, dancing, and “kefi” at the St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church grounds.
HotWorks.org will present the 9th Annual Boca Raton Fine Art Show™ on January 27 & 28, 2018 in downtown Boca Raton on Saturday & Sunday from 10AM-5PM at Sanborn Square Park on East Boca Raton Road and NE 1st Ave. Affected streets will be closed to vehicular traffic at 3PM on Friday January 26th and re-open on or before 10PM Sunday January 28th. On Saturday February 3rd and Sunday February 4th the Boca Raton Museum of Art hosts the 32nd Annual Museum of Art Festival in Mizner Park. The streets of Mizner Park will, again, be filled with a tremendous selection of art from across the country. One of a kind art will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to the support of the museum’s educational programming. The festival is open from 10AM – 5PM and is free and open to the public.
The Boca Raton Seafood & Music Festival follows the next weekend (Saturday and Sunday February 10th and 11th) from 10AM–6PM. The ticketed event is a unique blending of food, music and visual entertainment offering a potpourri of delectable seafood creations and delicious drinks prepared by our city’s top restaurants combined with outstanding musical performances by local and regional musicians. General admission is only $5.00
As noted above, the Festival of the Arts returns to Mizner Park Amphitheater for its 11th season on Friday February 23rd at 7:30PM with Grammy Award winning American soprano Kathleen Battle.
Itzhak Perlman returns to the amphitheatre stage on Saturday February 24th at 8PM. Perlman is the reigning virtuoso of the violin.
On Sunday February 23rd the Festival presents Grupo Company Segundo, an iconic band from Havana Cuba. The show begins at 7PM
Don’t miss Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & friends present an evening of music, poetry and prose on Friday March 2rd at 7:30PM.
The Festival of the Arts concludes on Sunday March 4th with a special presentation of ET the Extra-Terrestrial. As in years past, the film will be accompanied by The Symphonia Boca Raton & Constatine Kitsopoulos, conductor. The movie presentation begins at 6PM

Boca Raton has a new comedy club! Located at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center, Comic Cure is a social non-profit with the simple mission of using the power of laughter to uplift and engage communities around important causes. Shows are presented once a month. On February 10th, the theme of the show is Florida’s Funniest Parents. Love and laughter is in the air as moms and dads from across the state take the stage to deliver their best jokes to win over the audience judges.
