Florida Beaches See a 50% Decrease in Sea Turtle Nests Due to Hurricane Dorian

Although Florida was lucky to avoid the landfall impact of Hurricane Dorian, the storm did cause other issues through its travel along the coast.

Palm Beach County has reported a decline of 50 percent of sea turtle nests due to the coastal impact of Dorian, states WPTV.

This number is not including the nests that were hatched prior to the hurricane.

It had been previously brought to our attention that the 2019 turtle nesting season recorded the largest number and even with the losses, it remains to be the strongest season yet.

Also following the hurricane, 1 million cubic yards of sand disappeared from our county and non-county beaches, resulting in about $23.2 million in damages.
