Why Florida is One of the Biggest Film Locations Outside of NYC and LA

If you were asked what the top cities are for film production in the United States, there is a good chance you’d mention Los Angeles and New York City before giving it a second thought. While you’d be absolutely correct that they are home to a massive amount of productions, southern Florida is doing its best to give them a run for their money.

All you have to do is take a look at the number of productions taking place in various states and you’ll see that Florida is actually number four on the list. That same data also showed that South Beach is the most filmed location in Florida, with Key West, and then Disney World following closely behind. So why is Florida climbing the list of the most popular film locations? Well, there are a few contributing factors.

There Is a Wide Array of Locations, Landscapes, and Backdrops

One of the things Florida is known for is its diverse landscapes, scenery, and backdrops ranging from stunning tropical looking beaches to the busy streets of Miami and then the laid-back smaller towns filled with lovely little houses. The list doesn’t end there; you’ve also got popular locations such as Coconut Grove in Miami, Daytona International Speedway, Kennedy Space Center, and football stadiums throughout southern Florida.

Production Companies Are Setting Up Shop

Of course, in order for a location to be taken seriously and start making a name for itself, there needs to be production companies that are willing to set up shop and make that investment. Beverly Boy Productions offers video production in South Florida and is a great example of professionals that realize the potential this market has to offer. Beverly Boy Productions specializes in TV commercials and corporate video services in the Miami area, which as the statistics show is the “it” place in the state right now. If your company needs video content, this video production company near me is here to help.

There Is a Push to Bring Back Film Incentives

It used to be that the state offered incentives to production companies, which helped to create a lot of jobs and buzz in the industry. Unfortunately, in 2016, those incentives were canceled, but now there is some serious talk of bringing them back. The idea being floated by a top Republican Senator is that grants of up to $2 million will be offered. Film companies who have completed at least 70% of their work in the state would be eligible for the grant.

The idea is that the grants would help inject more excitement into the film industry and bring more jobs to the state. At the same time, it would make for a welcoming location for production companies looking to set up shop.

Watch for Growth in the State

So, as the discussion of incentives and grants continues, and the state continues to open its arms to production crews, watch for it to become more and more popular as it works to compete with the likes of Los Angeles and New York City.
