Students from two Boca Raton high schools were recently recognized by school officials for winning first and third place in the inaugural Advanced Placement Global Challenge.

The team from Boca Raton High won the grand prize for a labeling system that details a product’s international impacts.

The students brainstormed a color-coded system to rate goods according to their social, economic and environmental effects.

Each of the six team members was invited to present their findings at the 2014 AP Annual Conference in Philadelphia where they were awarded a $5,000 scholarship.

The 12-week after school program and scholarship competition challenged students to work together to address global topics and challenges through research, innovation, collaboration, and problem solving.

The team from Spanish River High tied for third place and also received a scholarship valued at $1,000.

The AP Global Challenge was piloted in 17 schools across the nation from January to April 2014 and a total of 30 final team projects were submitted and scored by an international panel of interdisciplinary judges.
