Wife of former NFL star involved in Boca country club fight, police say

According to the Boca Raton Police Department incident report, the wife of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter said she was head-butted by another woman during an argument over a line call in a tennis match on Monday, April 8th.

However, the woman involved has said she was the victim of the first punch.

Melanie Carter, 47, of Boca Raton, told police she and other women were playing a doubles tennis match in the Seasons of Boca Raton community when one of the women on the opposing team asked for a line judge to clear up a disputed call at about 11:30 a.m.

According to the report, when Carter didn’t agree with the judge’s call to play the point again, the two moved toward each other and started arguing.

Carter then told police that the judge, Kimberly Ann Fox, 43, of Parkland, said something like, “hit me” and then head-butted her before the two ended up scuffling on the ground.

Fox told police almost the same thing – but denied head-butting Carter. She said Carter threw a punch at her just as she finished asking Carter if she was going to hit her, the police report said.

The two fought on the ground for seconds before others rushed in and separated the women.

Carter had a small cut on her face and knee, while Fox said she was punched several times and had sore ribs along with a small cut to the back of her head. Neither woman required hospitalization and were treated by Boca Raton Fire Rescue paramedics at the scene.

Conflicting witness statements and a lack of surveillance video at the tennis courts meant police could not determine who was at fault for the fisticuffs. No one was arrested, police said.
