Bacterial Levels in Florida Beaches Continue to Rise

Florida continues to see health advisories surrounding rising bacterial levels at many beaches.

A recent sample collected at Lantana beach containing evidence of elevated bacterial levels, has led to the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County to issue a health advisory.

WPTV states, the recent storm season resulting in heavy rain and high surf  can be a cause of the elevated bacterial levels.

As of right now, Lantana Beach is the only area in Palm Beach County with an unfit water quality rating. All other samples collected from surrounding areas in Palm Beach County have come back with adequate quality ratings.

Although, Ocean Inlet Park in Ocean Ridge has demonstrated just a “moderate” water quality.

The Department of Health officials urge citizens to avoid any unnecessary issues through rinsing off with fresh water after exposure to a natural body of water.
