     Deputy County Administrator Verdinia Baker was selected to succeed Bob Weisman as County Administrator from a field of six finalists.

     The Palm Beach Pops has canceled its concert series again in Boca and West Palm Beach, but will continue its schools music education programs.

     The former Lord Mayor of Westminster, Duncan Sandys, who’s also the great-grandson of Winston Churchill was at West Boca High wearing a red, fur-lined robe and white gloves, to officially ask the band to march early next year at London’s New Year’s Day Parade, one of 12 in the U.S. and a first in Palm Beach County, to this popular event worldwide nearing its third decade. They need a little over $300,000 to pay for airfare and their six-day stay in London. A car wash and online fundraising page have pulled in about $1,000 so far.       A Boca Raton ER doctor was being extorted by a former Broward County sheriff’s investigator who was convicted for taking $7,000 to not tell his wife. She was about to shake down another prominent lawyer for $20,000 for her silence she also met on the hookup website Ashleymadison.com.

     Flying internationally into Boca Raton Airport is about to get a whole lot easier; and a whole lot sooner than expected. Officials have gotten all the money needed for construction of the airport’s new Customs and Border Protection aviation facility near the Fairfield Inn to be finished by the end of 2016.

     A Florida Atlantic University Professor invented a software program that can block drivers from sending or receiving text messages from the behind the wheel of a moving vehicle more than 10 MPH and FAU patented the program, spurring a tech firm Port-Nexus to begin implementing and developing it.

     AT&T opened two franchise stores in the Boca Lyons Center at Glades & Lyons Road and in Mizner Park.

     Arts Garage President and CEO Alyona Ushe has tapped Primal Forces’ Keith Garsson as Producing Director who will be joined by Genie Croft of the Women’s Theatre Project as Resident Director.

     Papalani Gelato opened their first South Florida store at 16950 Jog Road at Addison Place, between Clint Moore Road and Linton Blvd., serving Hawaiian style gelato, chocolates and coffee from Hawaii and other parts of the world, in addition to offering breakfast items of buttermilk Belgian waffles, fruit, etc.

  South Florida’s largest cable company Comcast reported first quarter revenue of $11.4 Billion, up a solid 6% from 2014 and revealed high speed internet was up a healthy 10%, while video and voice services were flat. Comcast has around 1.5 million subscribers from Key West to Vero Beach and recently pulled the plug on its ill-fated merger plans with Time-Warner cable. Comcast has 22 million subscribers nationwide.

     Verizon announced that it will purchase AOL, which owns The Huffington Post, in a $4.4 billion deal aimed at improving ads and Web video content. The move is believed to be linked to Verizon’s goal to expand into the online video arena, where AOL’s existing technologies could give it an advantage. The company’s video service is expected to launch this summer.

     Florida Power & Light revealed first quarter earnings of $359 million, up 3% from the same quarter last year and also plans to ask the state public commission to nail customers with a major tab to drill for natural gas used in power generation. FP&L operates as a monopoly blessed by the state and last year stashed away $1.3 Billion in profits.

     South Florida’s Seminole Indian Tribe is blasting Gov. Rick Scott for stalling negotiations on a new gambling agreement. The Tribe’s exclusive table games deal offering blackjack and baccarat in exchange for paying the state $250 million a year expires July 31. The Seminoles accused Scott of foot-dragging on the deal under political pressure from the tribe’s South Florida’s competitors who want table games for their own casinos.

    Boca Raton AIPAC supporters Lothar and Carlyn Mayer hosted a fundraiser for Marco Rubio in their St. Andrews Country Club home, called “the Boca Raton Presidential Kick-off Honoring U.S. Senator Marco Rubio “Americas Favorite Son”. Cost to attend was $1,000 or $2,700 for a photo with him.

    In preparation for his all-but-declared 2016 presidential bid, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has found a South Florida home for his likely campaign. Bush’s political action committee, Right to Rise, has leased space on parts of two floors of the Flagler Corporate Center, which at least until recently housed offices for Florida Power & Light.

   Silverspot Cinema, and upscale movie theatre company with 11 screens and 1,475 seats opens May 15 at 4441 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek in the Promenade Shopping Center. It will have a 150 seat restaurant and bar in the lobby opening later this summer.

     Motorists along Interstate 95 can expect nightly traffic disruptions next week as construction workers build the new interchange at Spanish River Boulevard. Beginning at 9 p.m. May 18, traffic will be rerouted to newly paved outside lanes just north and south of the Spanish River Boulevard overpass. The shift will continue each night through May 21.

     The Delray Beach Playhouse tops off its 2014-15 Season with one of Neil Simon’s best-loved comedies, Barefoot In The Park.  In this affectionately autobiographical play, Simon tells the story of Paul and Corie Bratter, two newlyweds settling into their first Manhattan apartment.
