Obituary for Sidney M. Leopold

Sidney M. Leopold, 79, died on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Boca Raton, Florida. Born in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph and Esther (Shapiro) Leopold. He is predeceased by his son, Bryan S. Leopold. In addition to his wife, Arlene C. Leopold of Boca Raton, FL, he leaves his daughter, Jacqueline Butler and her husband, Jeffrey of Hillsboro, NH; his son, Matthew Leopold and his wife, Tamara of Pleasantville, NY; his daughter-in-law Randi Leopold of West Hartford, CT and his step-daughter Carolyn Topol of CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jared, Jason, Jaime, Jillian, and Jonathan of Hillsboro, NH; Ryan and Justin Leopold of West Hartford, CT; Max and Ian Leopold of Pleasantville, NY; Jennifer and Adam Topol of CT; a great granddaughter, Sadie Butler of Hillsboro NH; as well as other family and friends. He lived in the New Haven area for much of his life. He was active in local Connecticut politics, holding several positions in city government. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. In his younger days he loved coaching both of his son’s Little League and basketball league teams. After retiring to Florida he continued to enjoy sports, traveling, playing cards and golfing. Funeral services were held graveside, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:00am at Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association. Weinstein Mortuary of Hartford is handling the arrangements.
