Congregation Shaarei Kodesh Presents “The Good Fight: Confronting Anti-Semitism on Campus and Beyond”

On April 15, 2023

Free Panel Discussion and Workshop Open to the Public (Registration Required)

Part of ADL’s “Kulanu: Synagogues in Action Against Antisemitism” Program

Boca Raton, FL – Congregation Shaarei Kodesh (CSK), located at 19785 Hampton Drive in Boca Raton, will present a cutting-edge discussion and workshop on Saturday, April 15 at 12 noon, following the synagogue’s Shabbat morning services.

“The Good Fight: Confronting Antisemitism on Campus and Beyond” will bring together local Jewish leaders, educators, and students for a frank and meaningful conversation about the dangerous rise of antisemitism on college campuses, in popular culture, and on social media platforms. Special guest panelists will address specific examples of Jewish hatred in our own community, the use of anti-Israel criticism as a thinly veiled version of antisemitism, and the challenges of distinguishing free speech from hate speech, and propose specific solutions for exposing and combating antisemitism in all forms.

Guest speakers will include Adam Kolett, executive director of Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach, representatives from ADL, teen educators, and student leaders from local college campuses.

“While South Florida has been a relatively safe haven for Jewish life and culture through most of our lifetimes, recent events have demonstrated a terrifying mainstreaming of antisemitism that seems to be worsening with each passing year,” said Rabbi David Baum of CSK. “Our own synagogue has directly felt the sting of this increased hatred of Jews and Judaism, and we are excited for the opportunity to proactively engage this important issue through education, open dialogue, and advocacy.”

While this free event is open to the public, local college students and college-bound teens in the Boca Raton area (as well as their parents and grandparents) are specifically invited to take part. (A Kiddush luncheon will be provided.) Registration is required by completing the online form at https://www.shaareikodesh.org/form/CSK-Kulanu-Program-Shabbat-Lunch-and-Learn.html. Only registered guests will be admitted on April 15.

“The Good Fight: Confronting Antisemitism on Campus and Beyond” is presented through ADL’s congregational engagement program Kulanu: Synagogues in Action Against Antisemitism. Kulanu, Hebrew for “all of us,” is an effort to support synagogues in the fight against antisemitism and hate with their congregations and in their broader communities. The program offers selected synagogues exclusive access to expert insight and webinars, an opportunity to be part of a community of practice, and to build meaningful connections between synagogues working together to address antisemitism. CSK is part of the first cohort of 113 American synagogues participating in this inaugural program.
