Trader Joe’s Opening To Be Delayed

DSC_0115

Originally planned to open on Sept. 26, Trader Joe’s will probably have to reschedule its opening due to city policies that requires underground power lines in the downtown.

The city policy requires underground power lines at the specialty grocery, as it does for all new development. But the developer says underground lines will cost Trader Joe’s too many parking spots and take too much time to open.

The work is proceeding as though the requirement for underground lines has been dropped. But Boca’s planning board and city staff members are recommending the City Council require the lines be buried. Ultimately, though, the decision rests with the City Council, which is now on a break until July 21.

Burying the power lines is a rule. Not only because it makes the city looks better, but also because it is safer to have them underground instead of over it in case of severe weather, which happens quite a lot.

Now is wait until July 21 to see what the City Council will decide.
