Majhess and Haynie Go Head-to-Head

By: Robert Baez

Tomorrow, March 11th is the day of the 2014 Boca Raton Municipal Election and any progress with voters can become the deciding factor. Anthony Majhess and Susan Haynie are both candidates for the Mayor of Boca Raton. These two candidates have been fighting it out for months and it all comes down to this.

Majhess believes that it is very important for voters to be educated on topics that affect the community. If residents did not make it to the forums held for the candidates to express their thoughts about pressing issues, video recordings of the forums can be seen at the City of Boca Raton website.

Haynie stated that social media has played a huge part in her campaign because she is able to reach a large number of people. Many residents of Boca Raton have reached out to ask her questions and seek out clarification on issues.

One thing that both these candidates can agree on is the amount of negativity that has been surrounding this election. “This has been a very challenging and negative campaign,” said Haynie.

“I hope everybody realizes how much money has been spent to try to get me out of office,” said Majhess. “Why would my opponents’ supporters spend so much money on professionally done television commercials?”

Historically, Boca Raton has had a voter turnout of less than 10%. Hopefully these campaigns were effective enough to reach people throughout the city and get them to vote.

Both candidates will be hosting an Election Results Party for members of the community to join while awaiting the results.

Polls will be open from 7am until 7pm. Several polling stations will be located around the city of Boca Raton. For more information please visit www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us under the ‘2014 Municipal Elections’ tab.
