Palm Tran Offering Chance to win Monthly Passes

By Jason Schwartz

Boca Raton,FL – In recognition of National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 20, South Florida residents are encouraged to make a pledge to join millions of commuters across the country who will ride public transportation.

As an added bonus, all South Florida participants who pledge to ride public transportation on that day will be entered into a drawing to win a FREE monthly pass on Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, Palm-Tran or Tri-Rail.

Palm Tran, Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, South Florida Commuter Services, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority/Tri-Rail and Florida Department of Transportation are working together to promote the benefits of public transportation. Riding public transit is an economical way to save money, particularly when gas prices are high. The latest APTA (American Public Transportation Association) Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save – on the average – more than $9,700 a year.

“Dump the Pump Day is a great time to check out the many available transit options in your area and find out how easy it is to use to commute to work daily or when needed,” said James Udvardy, project director of South Florida Commuter Services. “Plus it provides an opportunity to leave the driving to someone else and be able to do work or catch up on rest while you are on the bus or train.”

Commuters who visit www.1800234RIDE.com and make the pledge to ride public transit on that day will be automatically entered to win a monthly pass on Palm Tran, Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit or Tri-Rail.

Sponsored by APTA, the 8th Annual National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation. Started in June 2006, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money. Public transportation use reduces the nation’s dependence on foreign oil by 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline a year and it also saves 37 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
