Caldwell Theatre in Boca to present "Cabaret"

BOCA RATON — Entr’ Acte Theatrix will present the musical, “Cabaret” Oct. 14 through 24 at the Count de Hoernle Theatre (Caldwell Theatre) in Boca Raton.

Theatrical producer Vicki Halmos, founder of the Palm Beach Principal Players, heads the new production company that will be presenting the Tony Award-winning, Kander & Ebb musical.

“Entr’Acte Theatrix plans to produce at least two musical shows each season that are edgier and more relevant than those traditionally presented by Palm Beach Principal Players,” said Halmos. “Cabaret is the perfect show to follow our critically acclaimed production of ‘Hair’ that wowed audiences at the Caldwell last June.”

“While we had actors from around the country come to Palm Beach County to star in ‘Hair,” for “Cabaret,” we cast young performers who were trained in South Florida along with some longtime local theater veterans,” said Halmos. “This is the goal of Entr’Acte Theatrix – to give emerging talents from South Florida the opportunity to get those critical professional theater credits before contemplating a move to New York, or any other larger arena. Unfortunately, professional performing opportunities for these young artists are relatively scarce in our area, in comparison to other municipalities around the country.”

Accordingly, the upcoming production of CABARET will feature a large cast – many of whom are graduates of local high schools, colleges and universities – including:

  • Shane Blanford (Emcee) Shane studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan and has performed all over South Florida.
  • Leah Sessa (Sally Bowles) A member of the “tribe” in the rock musical ‘Hair,” the inaugural production of Entr’Acte Theatrix, she is graduate of the Theater Department at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is a veteran of several productions by Palm Beach Principal Players and has worked at the Crest Theater, Maltz Jupiter Theater, Delray Beach Playhouse and the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Ryan Michael Owens (Cliff Bradshaw) Ryan Owens has appeared in numerous theatrical productions in Martin County, including shows at the Shiloh Theater, Starstruck Productions, the Barn, Indian River State College, and the Lyric Theater.
  • Jeanne McKinnon (Fraulein Schneider) Jeanne grew up in a dance studio and taught dance until she graduated to the theatre. She has danced in the chorus of many shows. She has worked at the Royal Poinciana Playhouse, Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre, Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre Training and Lake Worth Playhouse.
  • Greg Halmos (Herr Schultz) A graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Department of Theater, Greg Halmos has been a visible presence within the Palm Beach County theater scene for more than a decade, primarily in productions by Palm Beach Principal Players. He also has performed at the Rinker Playhouse, and at the Crest, Eissey and Harriet Himmel Theaters.

“Cabaret” will be directed and choreographed by Kimberly Dawn (KD) Smith, a protégé of the late Broadway wunderkind Michael Bennett.

Tickets are $30 and $25, and $10 for full time students with ID. To reach the Box Office, call 561-241-7432 or 877-245-7432.
