Letter containing white powder and a threat delivered to Rep. Alan West's Boca office

BOCA RATON — A letter containing white powder and a threat was opened at Congressman Allen West’s office this afternoon, prompting a HazMat response, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the office, near the 2000 block of North Federal Highway, about 1:30 pm, said Frank Correggio, city fire-rescue spokesman.

Staffers in West’s office in Washington and West Palm Beach said they were aware of the threat but didn’t know any details.

More information wasn’t immediately available.
