Oleda Talk's….On AgeLess BEAUTY AND HEALTH! Get Back The Thicker, Stronger Hair You Once Had….Yes…you can!

Dear Friend,

Don’t just sit back thinking there is nothing you can do about your thinning hair…if you just sit back, then there IS nothing you can do!  Instead, take the bull by the horns, read through this column with hope, and you will know you can be in charge…. Move over thin hair…you’re getting company!

My hair is 75 years old (well…kinda’) and it has been abused all my life. As a TV and photographer’s fashion model, my hair got a terrible  beating…it was frequently worked on, had so many hot rollers on it too often, and was put under hot lights for hours at a time. On top of that, I’m a double process blond…meaning I bleach the darker roots out and then apply a blond color over it for tone. I have been doing this for 52 years since I was 23. (I do it myself at home) So if anyone should have broken, thin, dull, unhealthy looking hair…it’s ME! …..but, as you can see, my hair has none of those problems.

What I’m about to share with you does not cost even a penny:

Besides good nutrition, which we’ll get into in another column, the single most important thing you can do for the health, growth, strength, shine and beauty of your hair is SCALP MASSAGE…. massaging the scalp in a special way.

You do it yourself twice a day for a month, then cut down to once a day when you see results. (See “When will I know if it’s working,” below)   Massage until the scalp tingles all over, especially in the “weaker or thinner” areas for 1 to 2 minutes.

The roots of hair are fed by many small blood vessels, which bring oxygen and nutrients to them and carry away carbon dioxide and other waste. Proper scalp massage increases this blood flow, bringing more nutrients to your hair’s roots. Without a healthy flow of blood, hair follicles grow more slowly and may eventually even die, causing the thinning to begin.

As each birthday passes, our natural circulation slows more and more, making scalp massage more important than ever, if we are to maintain the healthy, strong hair we had in earlier years. Oily hair is even more prone to sluggish scalp circulation. Oil and dead cells combine to form debris that hardens and sticks to the scalp, reducing circulation even more and eventually destroying hair roots. Massage is very important to help prevent blockage of the follicles…the roots.

I often hear of ladies who have their hair “done” once a week, and then don’t want to touch it much until their next appointment…this works directly against everything in the book related to thicker, healthier hair.

HERE’S THE SCALP MASSAGE: I do this 4 or 5 times a week.

STEP 1. Place the fingertips of both hands firmly on your scalp without bending your fingers. Do not slide your fingers over the hair or scalp….keep them firmly in place and then push the skin of your scalp around in a circular motion as you slowly count to six. You will feel that part of your scalp moving around. That’s good! Now place your fingers in another section of your head and repeat the motion until you have covered the entire scalp, spending a little more time at the “weaker” areas by counting to ten instead of six. 40 – 60 seconds once or twice a day.

STEP 2. With your fingertips, fingernails or a wide tooth comb with rounded ends and teeth widely spaced (to prevent hurting the scalp) move in a vigorous rubbing motion “scratching” your scalp until your head tingles and feels warm. Repeat this all over your head. You are now getting the blood flow where it is needed most. Pay special attention to the thinning or weak areas. The top of the head and temples are the most difficult for the blood supply to reach. 1 to 2 minutes once or twice a day.

I hear you now…You are afraid of losing more hair, Right?

At the beginning of your Scalp Massage Therapy, the state of health of the papilla has already been programmed. This will not be altered until YOU change the program through massaging. In other words, when you start, you’ll see some hair loss, but those are hairs you will lose anyway. What you are about to do is to take charge and change the condition of the hair follicles, strengthening them, making them more healthy and providing new follicles that develop into strong and beautiful hair.

When will I know if it’s working?

As you begin this program, part your hair in the middle and pull both sides flat away from the part. Check closely to see how many tiny new hairs might be growing where you’ve parted the hair…sticking up or out so to speak. If you have hair problems, there may be only very few. Now, in about 4 weeks (maybe sooner) repeat this test. You should see many more tiny new hairs growing in. They will appear “singed” or “weak” on the very ends when new. These new hairs are the beginning of new, stronger growth AND at the same time your “old” roots will have become more nourished, stronger and healthier too.

So the health and beauty of your hair is dependent on the circulation of the blood to the Papilla, but of equal importance is the nutrition you feed it and the oxygen you give it. Watch for more on nutrition in a future column.
