Family of Boca Raton Woman Who Was Murdered by Best Buy Delivery Man to File Lawsuit

On August 19, tragic reports had surfaced that a local Boca Raton woman was murdered in her home during a Best Buy delivery installation.

21-year-old Jorge Lachazo was the Best Buy delivery man who brutally attacked and burned the 75-year-old, Evelyn Udell, in her home.

The attack occurred during a routine washer and dryer unit set-up. Lachazo beat the victim with a mallet and set her on fire, according to police reports.

According to WPTV, police reports show Lachazo was recently using cocaine and marijuana but they still have not concluded the motive of the crime.

Friday morning, Udell’s family announced their lawsuit to raise awareness and ensure that in-home service workers undergo extensive background checks.

According to attorneys for Morgan & Morgan, the lawsuit consists of; Best Buy, JB Hunt, XM Services Inc., the sales people from Best Buy selling the washer and dryer, the owner of XM Services, the delivery driver, and the suspect.

Udell’s family has also funded a trust to support causes that she loved and ensure she did not die in vain.

Best Buy also released a statement claiming that they wish to donate to the family’s charity and will be calling for legislation in regards to mandatory background checks across the retail industry.
