Florida voters surprised at Republican Governor Ron DeSantis for his prompt actions in his first two weeks in office

American veteran and politician Ron DeSantis who is currently the 46th governor of Florida has taken the voters by surprise at how quickly he has adapted to his new position vowing to bring an end to ‘judicial activism.”

The Governor is only two weeks, and his effective actions are taking people by surprise. He recently announced a plan to address environmental issues. He acknowledged that the state needs to address the rising sea levels, the pardoned four black men who had been accused of raping a white teenager over seven decades ago.

Gov. Ron DeSantis went ahead to name a Democrat for a top position in his administration. Florida voters are surprised as they were expecting the governor to be politically divisive due to his strong ties to President Donald Trump.

Surprisingly, the governor demanded the Republican-led Legislature to rewrite a restrictive law that could make medical marijuana easily accessible to patients.

As Trump continues to divide the country at large, Ron DeSantis is clearly beginning his term in serious business as his actions speak of his intention of uniting people of different political affiliations.

Trial lawyer John Morgan, in a recent Facebook Video, said, “This new governor is a great governor. I am more encouraged by the first two weeks of DeSantis than anything I’ve seen in years.”

In recent years, John Morgan has raised millions of dollars over the past years for Democratic-affiliated candidates. He even did so in 2016 for Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton. The same lawyer, Morgan had led an effort to legalize medical marijuana in the state constitution. He even sued the Legislature and the then Governor Rick Scott when they banned the smokable use of marijuana.

Luckily, DeSantis is now on Morgan’s side on the medical marijuana subject as he is also pushing for its legalization. He even made Morgan declare, “DeSantisclause came to town!”

In his campaign, DeSantis wanted to build off economic accomplishments of Scott who was elected to U.S. Senate after serving for two terms as a governor. However, DeSantis is proving not to be a divisive figure like Trump and neither a Scott clone.

Scott is known to be partisan, but DeSantis is starting his term by having a broader political base. This is making him take action on issues that Scott never addressed during his term.

A case to note, in 2017, the Legislature had unanimously approved a resolution apologizing to the families of the men who had been accused of raping a 17-year old girl in 1949; the Groveland Four. One of the convicted had been tracked down by a posse, and he was shot 400 times. The rest were convicted of some dubious evidence.

Currently, the case is seen as racially unjust on Florida’s history. The Legislature had requested Scott to pardon the accused, but he never took any action. On his first Friday in office, DeSantis and the state’s Cabinet granted the pardons.

Wade Greenlee, a brother to one of the Groveland Four, said, “I don’t know why Governor Scott didn’t pardon them. He didn’t have the guts. But I thank God for the Governor we have now. He didn’t waste no time.”

Scott has been criticized for denying climate sea level rise. For DeSantis however, he plans to have a chief science officer position. Just as there is need to get student refinancing debt advice where you can get redirected here to learn more, there is also a need for the state to protect wildlife and communities from the rise in sea level just as the governor said in his second day in office.

The new governor has promised to allocate a billion dollars to address the red tide off the state’s coast and the pollutants in Lake Okeechobee that are the cause of algae blooms.

Surprisingly, as mentioned earlier how the governor is aiming at uniting people, he has reached out to his opposers. He appointed former Democratic state Rep. Jared Moskowitz as the state’s emergency management director. Moskowitz was one of the most vocal opponents of the Republican agenda.

The real test is the remaining term as it will be a test if he will continue with the same charisma.

The governor has caught the Democrats’ attention such as David Beattie who said, “He’s taken a proactive Florida stand which is a distinct contrast of Scott.”

Beattie was among those who though DeSantis wouldn’t get elected because Trump had backed him in the primaries.

For Beattie, he admits that DeSantis the governor is entirely different from DeSantis the candidate. “I’m surprised. It’s not what I anticipated.” He even predicted that DeSantis approval ratings would be higher than Scotts in his eight years in office.

The new governor insisted that he was not trying to have a distinction with Scott, but instead, he said they all came from different circumstances.
