     Office Depot CEO Ron Smith is slated to get a $39 million pay day if the Office Depot $5 billion sale to Staples goes through despite OD losing a huge $354 million last year and closing 140 stores, while serving only two years as CEO, pocketing the bulk of the deal in a $32 million stock transfer.

     The Boca Raton Regional Hospital received a $2 million donation from Peggy and Phillip DeZeief to name the Spinal Disorders and and Back Pain center after them and will be used to fund programs, technology, capital projects and services for the center.

        Daniel C. Flynn, a renowned breast cancer researcher with more than 20 years of experience, will lead Florida Atlantic University into a new era of innovation as its vice president of research.

 

     Palm Beach County single family home sales totaled 1,037 for January, up 15% from last year; 479 were paid in cash which 221 were for foreclosures. In a related matter, the number of vacant homes in the foreclosure process have decreased this year, but they still make up a sizeable share of the foreclosure market, with a little over 2500 vacant homes in Palm Beach County, compared to 4300 distressed properties the previous year. The vacant homes are not yet in the hands of the lender and fall into disrepair which turns into hurting neighborhood values.

 

     South Florida flight schools and flight training bases along the coast are gearing up to face an enormous influx of student pilots due to an industry pilot shortage looming on the horizon, as thousands of experienced pilots face mandatory retirements at age 65. Lynn University in Boca and Palm Beach County Stage College both offer pilot training courses along with Nova Southeastern University with an average tuition of $50,000.

     Kravis on Broadway Announces 2015-2016 Series Packed with Broadway Hits & Kravis Center Debuts: BLUE MAN GROUP (December 8-13, 2015); 42nd STREET (January 5-10, 2016); MOTOWN THE MUSICAL (February 9-14, 2016); MATILDA THE MUSICAL (March 1-6, 2016); Woody Allen’s BULLETS OVER BROADWAY (March 22-27, 2016); THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY THE MUSICAL (April 26 – May 1, 2016). Subscribers for the Kravis on Broadway series will receive their renewals in mid-March. Kravis Center donors will receive information on becoming a Kravis on Broadway subscriber for the 2015-2016 series in mid-May.
