The SYMPHONIA|BOCA RATON Announces 10th Anniversary Season

The SYMPHONIA|BOCA RATON (www.thesymphonia.org) will celebrate its 10th anniversary season with four stellar Connoisseur Concert Series performances.

The 2014-2015 Connoisseur Concert Series includes:

Sunday, December 21st, 2014 at 3:00 pm: Proudly featuring David Kim as guest conductor and Mei Mei Luo as violin soloist. The concert will include Corelli’s Concerto Grosso, op. 6, no. 8,
Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, as well as three orchestral works for strings and harpsichord from the late Baroque era, including Corelli’s Concerto Grosso which contrasts a string trio with the full ensemble; Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, noted for the subtle interplay between the two violin soloists; and Vivaldi’s four virtuoso violin concertos, which portray each of the Four Seasons.  Guest conductor David Kim is the Concertmaster for the Philadelphia Orchestra and violin soloist Mei Mei Luo is the concertmaster of The Symphonia and founding violinist of the Delray String Quartet.

Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3 pm:  Gerard Schwarz is featured as guest conductor and Julian Schwarz as cello soloist.  The program includes Strauss’s Divertimento, op. 86, Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Mahler/Brittten’s “What the Wild Flowers Tell Me”
and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, op. 21.

Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 3 pm: Alexander Platt will serve as guest conductor, with Gareth Johnson as violin soloist, and Scott O’Donnell as viola soloist.  Composers to be featured that evening include Barber, Haydn and Beethoven.  The program will include Prokofiever’s
 Symphony No. 1, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364, Glass’s
Company
and Bizet’s Symphony in C major.

Sunday, April 12, 2014 at 3 pm: The final concert of the season will feature the highly popular James Judd as guest conductor and celebrated local musician Jeffrey Kaye as trumpet soloist.  The program will include Beethoven’s
Leonore Overture No. 3, op. 72b, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 in C major, op. 61.

All of the concerts will be held at the Roberts Theater at Saint Andrew’s School, 3900 Jog Road in Boca Raton.  Prior to each concert, there will be a 2 p.m. Pre-Concert Conversation with the conductor or guest speaker from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. which will be an opportunity to learn more about the pieces that are to be performed that afternoon.  Reservations are required to attend a Pre-Concert Conversation and adults are $5 and children are free.
