Strikers add David Foley for 2013 Season
A few days after loaning Aly Hassan for the Spring season to Club Aurora, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers wasted no time in finding his replacement.
Earlier today, forward David Foley and the Strikers agreed on a deal for the 2013 season.
Striker fans know exactly who Foley is. For the past three seasons Foley was a key part of the Puerto Rico Islanders’ attack, recording 22 goals and 10 assists in three years with the club that will not participate in the Spring Championship Season.
“Joining the Strikers for the 2013 season is very exciting. I know from experience they are a tough team to play against and now I’m part of that team,” said Foley.
In 2011, Foley showed a highly effective and balanced game when he recorded seven goals and six assists on the season. Foley was also named to the NASL’s Best XI Team that season.
In 2012, he was a the main attack for the Islanders, scoring six goals and having three assists in NASL play.
If you are a fan of the NASL, you surely remember when Foley made his debut for the Puerto Rico Islanders in the 2010 season.
Foley scored his first goal in the 12th minute of the season against the Minnesota Stars on April 21, 2010 at Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel. That season, Foley would go on to tie for the team lead in goals with nine, while picking up one assist.
Foley first met the Strikers on June 2 at home, where he scored a goal from the penalty spot.
The English international, who played for Hartlepool United prior to coming to the United States, joins a potent Strikers attacking group that already has players like Herron, Restrepo, Anderson, who combined for 25 goals last season.
With the addition of the prolific scorer, this makes the Strikers’ attacking group one of the most dangerous in the NASL.
“I’m looking forward to helping an already good group and can’t wait to get the season started,” said Foley. “I’ve always been impressed with the fans and their support, so hopefully that can continue and they can watch us become NASL champions in 2013.”
