Women In Distress Raises More than $210,000 at its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, “Chip In For Charity”

Boca Raton, FL – On Veteran’s Day, supporters of Women In Distress of Broward County (WID), joined together at the 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament and raised more than $210,000 to support programs to help survivors of domestic violence and their children get a new start.

Led by WID Board member Phyllis Thomas, the event was held on Nov. 11 at Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale with Presenting Sponsor Ultimate Software and major sponsors The Thomas Family Foundation, David and Lynn Sobocinski Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company and Lorraine Thomas. Supporting sponsors included Aflac, Stephen and Michele Ball, JM Family Enterprises, Inc./Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC, and the Miami Dolphins.

Since its inception, the Women In Distress Charity Golf Tournament has raised more than $700,000 to continue the agency’s free and confidential services including emergency safe shelter, a 24-Hour crisis hotline, counseling, therapy, education, training and other programs to help families break the cycle of domestic violence. Last year, the agency served more than 4,100 women, men and children – the highest number in its 45-year history.

“We are thankful to our volunteer leaders and sponsors for their commitment to bringing awareness to the mission of Women In Distress,” stated Phyllis Thomas. “Raising awareness of this important community issue will help survivors to rebuild their lives. The golf tournament provides a great opportunity to keep this message in the forefront of the community.”

“Because of volunteer leaders like Phyllis and Al Thomas who rally support, and so many community friends and partners, we are able to meet growing community needs to keep families and children safe,” added Mary Riedel, President and CEO of Women In Distress.
