Should Palm Beach County School District Grant Charter Schools Security?

There has been a recent dispute on whether or not Palm Beach County is required to supply charter schools with the money to have security guards. State law now requires for all public schools to be given security, but it says nothing about charter. To put this in perspective, charter schools are practically public schools, but privately operated.

This dispute began with PBC not granting Renaissance Charter Schools money for security after the Parkland school shooting, which is the reasoning behind the requirement for the district to grant security to public schools.

According to the Palm Beach Post, there are 52 charter schools in the county, none of which are given security by the district.

In the end, it was apparent that the state law clearly states that school boards and superintendents are required to provide security, but charter school operators have no responsibility to do so.
