Hurricane Dorian strengthens, shifts further away

As of the 11 p.m. Friday advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian is a dangerous Category 4 storm, but its projected path is now shifting slightly east.

Dorian is now sustaining winds of up to 140 mph in the western Atlantic Ocean, and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph.

The National Hurricane Center said Dorian “poses a significant threat to Florida and the Northwestern Bahamas,”

The 11 p.m. update has the storm staying a Category 4 until landfall along the Florida east coast Tuesday afternoon.

The storm is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph and this general motion is expected to continue through Saturday.

However, just because the eye of the storm has moved away from Boca Raton as of right now, it does not mean we are in the clear as hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.
