Florida Bill to Ban Declawing Cats
A new bill proposed for the 2020 legislative session by Sen. Lauren Book, could ban the declawing of cats unless medically mandatory.
The law is meant to mirror the New York law, signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on July 22. The law enforces a $1,000 fine on any veterinarians carrying out this procedure.
The News Service of Florida states that under Book’s proposal, the Board of Veterinary Medicine will implement a $1000 disciplinary action fine to Florida veterinarians that declaw cats.
The legislative exceptions to this law include: “recurring illness, infection, disease, injury or abnormal condition” that could impact the cat’s overall health.
