America’s Biggest Mall is Coming to Miami: How will it Impact Boca Raton?

Boca Raton, FL – Having a massive mall so close to the city of Boca Raton opens many doors for local businesses potentially looking to expand South, and shoppers looking for new areas to pick from. However, opening this mall could expose many downsides of such a large tourist attraction that has no exclusive benefits for the City of Boca Raton.

The American Dream Mall in Miami has the obvious upsides that come with every mall. What is different about the American Dream Mall, though, is its size, and location. As America’s largest mall, along with its own hotel, tourism will be rampant in the area. Being outside of Miami to the Northwest, the mall will attract a higher level of tourism to areas other than those closer to downtown Miami. Along with the tourism, there will be a very large increase in traffic, which will affect the highways coming into the area, including Interstate 95 which passes through Boca Raton. Traffic is already a problem to the citizens of Boca Raton, especially the areas around Interstate 95.

A major disadvantage of the mall is the position it puts small businesses in. As the mall attracts more customers, small businesses will have a major increase in competition. This could be a major advantage for some businesses who will move into the mall to attract customers they would not usually have as clientele, but businesses that cannot afford to move will see this increase in competition.

The American Dream Mall in Miami will not only affect the citizens of the area, it will have a wide impact on all of Florida’s Southeast coast. Tourism is already a massive industry, and this mall will increase it at a major cost.
