City Council To Discuss Sale of Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course

4100Boca has become more populated, and home developers are looking for more space to build homes. Golf courses have recently become targets in South Florida, as they are some of the last large green spaces left. The Boca Raton Municipal Golf course is no different, as the city of Boca begins to discuss the possibility of its sale.

The golf course is located at 8111 Golf Course Rd, just west of the Florida Turnpike on Glades.

The course is about 194 acres, with 18 holes, a clubhouse, driving range and putting greens. The course is city owned.

Four developers have voiced interest in the property, but most recently Lennar Corp, according to the Sun Sentinel, offered the city $37.5 million for the sale of the Boca Raton Municipal Golf course. On top of the $37.5 million, Lennar offered to give the city the Ocean Breeze Golf course. Lennar purchased the repossessed and recently closed Ocean Breeze Golf & Country Club, from Wells Fargo, who repossessed the property. The sale of the property, located at 5800 NW 2nd Ave, was finalized on July 1.

Other offers for the Boca Municipal Golf Course include a $31.2 million offer from Compson Boca Argent LLC. Another is from Toll Brothers, who offered $2.1 million for 30 acres of the land, while continuing to operate the golf course for the city for 40 years.

If the city council decides to approve a sale, it would have to go through Palm Beach County approval first. If the council decides to consider sale, they would allow the developers to compete for the highest price under terms set by the city.

Boca Raton City Council will begin discussion on Monday of several offers that it received from developers. The meeting will take place at City Hall at 201 W. Palmetto Park Rd.
