Obituary: John Robert Jones Jr.

John Robert Jones Jr. (JR)

Beloved Husband, Father, Pastor and friend to many. Passed at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Florida. He was born in Miami Florida to John Jones Sr. and Maria Tarmon. He served faithfully in the US Armed Forces before entering full time ministry. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis Missouri.

As a child he was a left to the state of Florida as his mother and father were unable to care for him. Enduring great uncertainty and abuses, he was raised in over 100 homes around South Florida. As a young adult he entered the United States Marine Corps as a reserve, before eventually fully enlisting in the United States Army.

He married Sylvia Kraushaar on August 24th, 1984, going on to have two children together. They began to raise their family in Ft. Hood, Texas and Ft. Riley, Kansas. In 1995, JR left the armed forces and moved the family to Arlington Texas where he worked as a correctional officer for the Federal Penitentiary in Fort Worth.

After becoming increasingly active in their home church, St Luke, JR felt called to full time ministry in the Lutheran Church. He moved the family to St. Louis Missouri where he attended Concordia Seminary to pursue his Masters of Divinity.

Upon graduation he received his first call to Atlanta, GA. He served at Rivercliff Lutheran Church for almost 6 years before taking a call to St. Paul Boca. He served at St. Paul Boca for 5 years before passing away from two, glioblastoma brain tumors.

Throughout his life and ministry he has impacted thousands of people. He walked with many through their times of trial. The hardships of his own life made him a compassionate and empathetic man with a gift for counseling.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia and two children Christal and Michael. His legacy lives on through his ministry and the many lives he impacted at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton, Florida and around the country. He will be remembered fondly and loved always.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton.

The family requests expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School.
