According to the National Hurricane Centerโs 11 a.m. Monday update, Hurricane Dorian was downgraded to a Category 4 storm and continues to have devastating effects on Grand Bahama Island.
According to the report, Dorian is expected to drift westward or west-northwestward over the next 24 hours, which will cause a prolonged period of devastating winds and storm surge over Grand Bahama Island.
The NHC states that by late Tuesday, a weakness in a ridge becomes more pronounced and Dorian should turn northwestward near the east coast of the Florida. And, by day 3, the hurricane is expected to make a northeastward turn ahead of a broad mid-latitude trough.
However, the storm still presents serious dangers to South Florida with hurricane-force winds extending outward up to 45 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 140 miles.
Schools in Palm Beach County will remain closed Tuesday as some schools have been used for shelters. We will remain to keep our readership updated on the latest.
