🌀 Update: Dorian stationary over Bahamas, South Florida to begin feeling effects this evening

According to the 8 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian remains stationary over the island of Grand Bahamas moving at or less than one mile per hour.

The Hurricane remains a Category 4 storm, with winds of up to 140 mph.

While the latest advisory has the storm brushing against South Florida, Boca Raton and the surrounding areas are now beginning to feel the tropical-storm-force winds and it will continue to linger Tuesday.

The storm continues to be dangerous for South Florida, as only a small deviation of the track toward the west would bring the core of the hurricane onshore, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles.

In preparation for South Florida feeling the effects of Hurricane Dorian, the Palm Beach School District has announced that school will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A number of shelters have opened for those who were in evacuation zones.
