As Hurricane Dorian is expected to make landfall along the east coast of Florida on Monday, September 2 as a Category 4 storm, Florida Atlantic University has announced they have canceled classes beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 30.
Due to the projected path of Hurricane Dorian, the following will go into effect for all FAU campuses. Students, faculty and staff should monitor all communication channels, including the University status page (www.fau.edu/advisory),
- Classes will not continue beyond 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 2. Instructional time missed during these days will be made up later in the semester.
- All FAU campuses will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 2.
- Students residing on campus in Boca Raton and Jupiter are currently permitted to stay on campus. Please communicate with the office in your residence hall/student apartment community your plans to remain on campus or depart for the weekend. The dining halls will remain open.
- In the event of a full campus closure, residents will be required to evacuate. The University will assist in transporting students to an off-campus shelter. Shelters are considered a place of last resort and students are encouraged to find alternative accommodation.
- Residents are asked to bring their bicycles into their residences and those with vehicles are encouraged to fill up their gas tanks in case they have to leave campus. All residents are strongly encouraged to remain indoors during the storm; housing staff will notify you when it is safe to return outdoors.
- Faculty and staff are expected to report per normal business hours on Friday, Aug. 30, to conduct regular business operations and complete storm preparations. Faculty and staff may leave campus Friday, Aug. 30, at times determined by their supervisors.
- Only resident students and essential personnel should be on campuses beginning Saturday, Aug. 31; essential personnel are expected to report to work unless otherwise directed.
- All events scheduled to take place on any FAU campus from 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 2, are canceled.
- A decision about classes and operations for Tuesday, Sept. 3, will be made as information becomes available.
