FAU Donors Honored at Annual Recognition Reception

BOCA RATON, Fla. (May 14, 2013) – The Florida Atlantic University Division of Community Engagement recently hosted its annual donor recognition reception to recognize the alumni, faculty, staff and friends who have generously given to FAU over the past two years. More than 200 guests attended the reception, which took place in the Delray Acura Club at FAU Stadium on the Boca Raton campus.

Guests were welcomed by Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., vice president of community engagement and executive director of the FAU Foundation. FAU President Mary Jane Saunders offered thanks on behalf of the University family.

“Thank you to all of our donors for standing with us now and in the future,” said Saunders. “Many of our students are able to come to FAU and pursue their educational goals only because of your help. Whether you are a longtime donor or a new friend of FAU, your support is greatly needed and deeply appreciated.”

FAU Foundation Board Chair Bruce Allen ’71 and alumna Catherine Trivigno ’10 provided additional remarks. Both received scholarships while attending FAU. While enrolled in the Ph.D. in integrative biology program, Trivigno, a single mother, was faced with numerous challenges, including her daughter’s medical issues. She credits the FAU Foundation with providing her with the financial support necessary to complete her degree. Today she is a research associate at the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, working on strategies for fighting cancer.

More than 60 percent of FAU’s students receive some form of financial aid. In fiscal year 2012-13, the FAU Foundation provided more than $3.3 million in scholarships to more than 1,500 students, including first generation students.

“Successful fundraising is paramount to the future of Florida Atlantic University, and each one of our donors has contributed to that impact,” said O’Flannery Anderson. “We are on target for meeting our fundraising goals this fiscal year, and that could not be possible without your support. Thank you again for your generosity.”
