FAU Benefactors Honored at Annual Scholarship Luncheon

BOCA RATON, FL (April 24, 2012) – The Florida Atlantic University Division of Community Engagement recently brought together scholarship benefactors and student recipients at the second annual scholarship luncheon. The luncheon, which took place at the Live Oak Pavilion on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, allowed the FAU community to publicly thank donors who have generously championed and sustained the dreams and accomplishments of deserving students.

Guests were welcomed by Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., vice president of community engagement and executive director of the FAU Foundation, and Randy Justice, chair of the FAU Foundation Board of Directors. Justice joined the Foundation Board in 2008 and previously served as vice chair. The Foundation Board is comprised of a dedicated group of alumni and friends of the University who volunteer their time and expertise to spearhead fundraising efforts and manage the Foundation’s assets.

“On behalf of the Division of Community Engagement and the Foundation Board, I offer sincere thanks to all of our donors who are here today,” said O’Flannery Anderson. “Your generosity has made a difference in the lives of many deserving students here at FAU.”

Student Anita Berbick also spoke at the luncheon and offered her thanks on behalf of all scholarship recipients. She is one of the first recipients of the President’s Challenge Scholarship, established in 2010 by FAU President Mary Jane Saunders.

“I am the youngest of five children and proud to say that I am the first member of my family to receive a college degree,” said Berbick. “Without the generosity of donors like you, I would not have been able to attend FAU and chase my dreams. Thank you for donating to FAU and believing in students like me.”
