Tropical Storm Issac is now over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, centered tonight more than 500 miles southeast of the mouth of Mississippi River, moving toward the west-northwest.
Maximum sustained wind are 65 mph. Addtional strengthening is forecast and Isaac is expected to become a hurricane.
The forecast track has the center of the storm continuing to move away from the Florida Keys overnight , over the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday, then approach the northern Gulf coast on Tuesday.
It is important not to focus on the exact track of Isaac due to the uncertainties in the forecast, and the fact that this storm has a large area of tropical storm-force winds, extending outward up to 205 miles from the center.
A Hurricane Warning continues for the northern U.S. Gulf coast from east of Morgan City, Louisiana, to Destin, Florida.
