Tropical Storm Isaac – Monday 8 AM update

by NOAAH

Tropical Storm Isaac is getting a little better organized this morning over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, centered about 360 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. The storm is still moving toward the west-northwest, with a tu

rn to the northwest expected tomorrow. On that forecast track, the center will approach the northern Gulf coast in the Hurricane Warning area on Tuesday.
A Hurricane Warning continues from east of Morgan City, Louisiana, to Destin, Florida. This includes New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion in the warning area. Additional Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for portions of the Gulf coast.
Remember, do not focus on the exact track of Isaac due to the uncertainties in the forecast, and the fact that this storm has a large area of tropical storm-force winds, extending outward up to 240 miles from the center. The weather will deteriorate long before the center reaches the coastline.
There is a threat of tornadoes over central Florida and the northeastern Gulf Coast through tonight, but the threat over South Florida will diminish this morning.
