Emb(race) race, Oscar night party among weekend activities in Boca

BOCA RATON — The “Emb(race),”  an all-inclusive race that features 5k and 10k runs, a 1 mile family walk, and dozens of out-of-door activities, food, music, games and other activities will be held Sunday, Feb. 27 on the campus of Florida Atlantic University. The races and a family fun day begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at noon.

Everyone in South Florida may participate in this first annual Emb(race).  The event is sponsored by Stand Among Friends, a 501c3 that helps people with disabilities achieve the maximum potential in the work place.  The day carries the tagline: “Emb(race) each others’ differences.”

One special guest participant is U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin of Rhode Island, chairman of the House Armed Forces Committee.  Congressman Langevin is the only quadriplegic state official serving in the US Congress. His courage and achievements are widely celebrated in Washington D.C., within his home state of Rhode Island and among all people with disabilities.

The emb(race) is an event that SAF created to help open doors for people with disabilities. Since starting an employment program in January of 2008, SAF has successfully placed over 330 people with disabilities into employment commensurate with their education and experience.
