Suspect steals $100,000 in tobacco products; locks driver inside delivery truck

BOCA RATON – Local police are searching for a man who stole about $100,000 worth of cigarettes, cigars, other tobacco products and various items from the rear of a delivery truck parked in an alley behind the Walgreens on SW Second Avenue Sept. 29.

Public Information Manager Mark Economou said the victim, an employee of H.T. Hackney, told officers he had just parked his work vehicle, a white box truck, in the alley when he was approached by a male about 6’ tall, thin build and wearing a grey, button-down shirt and dark slacks.

The unarmed male suspect forced the victim into the rear of the truck and locked him in the cooler section.  The suspect then proceeded to take the entire cargo and load it into a large unknown type of vehicle, which was parked behind the victim’s truck.

The man locked in the truck was released after a Good Samaritan heard him pounding on the inside, He was not injured.
