BOCA RATON — The Caitlin Foundation was at the Toppel Family Place at Boca Raton Regional Hospital October 22 to donate carbon monoxide detectors to all new parents in hopes of raising awareness about children and carbon monoxide poisoning.
The campaign, called “Safe Home/Safe Baby,” provides detectors to new parents when they leave the hospital with their infants.
The Caitlin Foundation was founded in memory of Caitlin Brondolo, who passed away at the age of 12 due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The home they were in did not have a carbon monoxide alarm. It is the hope of the Foundation to educate parents about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Karen Edlington, director of women’s and children’s services at the Toppel Family Place, said, “This is such a positive gesture from the Caitlin Foundation. We are happy to do what we can to aid them in their effort to bring awareness to parents in our community about the devastating effects of carbon monoxide poisoning.”
