Boca Raton Fire Chief Honors Former T.V. Star of Emergency

Boca Raton–Fire Chief Tom Wood presented the Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services Excellence Award to Randolf  Mantooth former star of the hit series Emergency.  Mr. Mantooth was the key note speaker at a seminar on firefighter safety that was held in the auditorium at the Fire Rescue Services Administration Building, 6500 Congress Avenue.  He

He spoke to over 150 firefighters from the tri-county area on firefighter safety and the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Mr. Mantooth took time to pose for pictures, signed autographs and signed Emergency memorabilia.

Mr. Mantooth’s character on the show Emergency, “Johnny Gage” was portrayed in a very positive light and provided credibility for the paramedic profession and was one of the best marketing tools to enhance Emergency Medical Services throughout this country.

In 1975 his personal experience with carbon monoxide poisoning and his real life rescue by two paramedics that day has lead to his current campaign to make firefighters aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide during overhaul and to seek medical monitoring and rehabilitation at fire scenes.  His support has been exemplified by his service as the honorary chairman and spokesperson of the County of Los Angeles Fire Museum Association since 2005.

In appreciation of his life time of support and inspiration, Chief Wood presented with Mr. Mantooth with the Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services “Excellence Award”.  The award is inscribed with the Vince Lombardi quote; “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”
