Gun-toting robbers hit Wendy’s on West Yamato at closing time July 6

BOCA RATON – Boca Raton police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Wendy’s Restaurant, 861 West Yamato Road, about 1:26 a.m. July 6, police said.

Public Information Officer Sandra Boonenberg said the robbers fled when they tried to open a safe and set off an alarm.  The suspects did tell employees to stay in the office as they exited the restaurant through the east door.

When officers arrived, employees who left the restaurant about 1:20 a.m. said they locked the door behind them. After exiting, they saw two males emerge from behind a parked car in the east parking lot near the hedges. The two suspects were dressed in dark clothing, wearing ski masks, and brandishing pistols.

The suspects approached the victims, ordered them to turn over their wallets and cell phones, and forced them back inside the restaurant.

Once inside, Boonenberg said, the suspects ordered the employees into the office and demanded they open the safe. One suspect became impatient and as he pulled on the handle to the safe, the restaurant’s alarm sounded.

Police said the suspects may have left in a silver or gray SUV, heading towards Yamato Road. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Detective Juan Carlos Pijuan at (561) 338-1387 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
