Officers quick response leads to robber’s arrest

On Wednesday, April 30, at about 2:40 p.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a report of a robbery at 640 West Yamato Road.

The victim, Filiberto Cruz, told officers he was in the plaza looking for gainful employment when he was approached by a male asking for money. Cruz said the suspect, later identified as Sylister Jones, brandished a box cutter type knife and motioned to him to come closer. Cruz ran to a nearby restaurant without giving Jones any money.

Detectives located Jones behind Rotelli’s Restaurant. Jones told officers he walked to the Tri-Rail from school and needed money for the train. Jones changed his version of story several times.

Cruz identified Jones as the suspect who tried to rob him. Officers arrested Jones and charged him with attempted robbery.
