Boca Raton Chabads and Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl Team Up To Celebrate Chanukah This Year On Two Turfs

December 4, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

With several nights of the “Festival of Lights” taking place this year during the 2017 college bowl week, the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl is “huddling for Chanukah” with Boca Beach Chabad and Chabad of Central Boca Raton to host collaborative menorah lightings on two turfs: Sanborn Square Park and FAU Stadium.

The community-at-large is invited to the free “Saturday Night Light” Chanukah Edition festivities on Saturday evening, December 16 – the fifth night of Chanukah – at 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Boca’s Sanborn Square park (northeast corner of Palmetto and Federal Highway). The evening will include a live concert by Yoel Sharabi, known as the “Sultan” of Sephardic music; latkes; singing; dancing; children’s activities and the ceremonial lighting of a five-foot tall, oil-burning menorah led by Rabbi Ruvi New of Chabad of East Boca Raton.

The celebration matchup then continues on the last night of Chanukah ‘on the field’ on Tuesday, December 19 at the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl at FAU Stadium.  Rabbi Moishe Denburg of Chabad of Central Boca Raton will “light up” the night with a menorah lighting ceremony shared with thousands of “fans in the stands”.

“We are pleased to team up this year to share the magic and light of Chanukah with the Boca Raton community,” said Doug Mosley, executive director of the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl. “Amidst so much disheartening news we hear, read and view daily, it is important to ‘shine a bright light’ on the peace, community pride and many blessings we enjoy right here in our Bowl’s own hometown.”

Rabbi New shared that he and his congregation look forward to joining together in community commemoration on two nights of Chanukah. “We are very grateful to the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Bowl leadership for their inclusive community-wide vision. The message of Chanukah – the right to freely worship G-d – resonates deeply with American values. Lighting the menorah at the Bowl game itself celebrates our community, our faith and our values.”
