Boca Raton, FL – When we visit national parks, we create memories that last a lifetime. But we can also celebrate our national parks at the Boca Raton Public Library thanks to Gary Bremen and Grant Livingston in their extraordinary Story Central presentation, “Our National Parks in Song and Story.” This free performance at the Downtown Library on Saturday, January 25, at 4:00pm, celebrates Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Gettysburg, Mammoth Cave, Selma, Stonewall, Yosemite and Florida’s own Biscayne National Park!

A National Park Ranger for thirty-three years, Gary Bremen is a writer, speaker and award-winning storyteller whose work has appeared in national magazines, on television, radio and podcasts. Singer-songwriter-guitarist Grant Livingston was named one of the Ten Greatest South Florida Folksingers of All Time. He is Artist-in-Residence at Everglades National Park.

Recreation Services Director Michael Kalvort says, “There are so many commonalities between libraries and our parks. They allow all citizens to explore their creativity and discover new things, and they are open to everyone. Boca Raton is fortunate to have such a great library and park system, and this program will bridge the gap to our amazing national parks.”

This presentation is the first in the Boca Raton Public Library’s year-long Story Central series with a focus on Civic Engagement and a celebration of American life. “Civic engagement takes many forms, and a common thread connects them all,” notes Story Central facilitator, Caren S. Neile, Ph.D., MFA. “Only by giving voice to our concerns and helping others do the same can we grow and create real change. Storytelling helps others see our world through our eyes and begin to experience our emotions. It builds bonds that enable us to work together to satisfy our most pressing needs.” A performance storyteller and author, Neile has taught storytelling and writing for twenty-five years in universities and community settings. She currently teaches at Florida Atlantic University.
