Hanley Foundation Expands Board with Four New Members

Whitney Douglass

West Palm Beach, FL – Hanley Foundation has announced the expansion of its Board of Directors with the addition of four new members: Whitney Douglass, Scott D. Hollingsworth, Erica Garwood, and Thomas J. Gallagher. The West Palm Beach-based nonprofit’s mission is to eliminate addiction through prevention, advocacy, treatment, and recovery support.

Whitney Douglass graduated from Vanderbilt University and is a former television executive with ABC News. Douglass is a longtime champion of Hanley Foundation, as her father has celebrated more than 50 years of sobriety, and she is in long-term recovery, as well. A lifelong horse enthusiast, Douglass’s family owned a thoroughbred horse farm, and her father, Lev Miller, was a professional polo player and founded the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in Lake Worth.

Douglass is a great-granddaughter of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, a founder of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and she is a great-great-great granddaughter of Joseph Pulitzer. Douglass resides in Palm Beach where she is raising her son and caring for her father.

Scott D. Hollingsworth is CEO of Avespa, a pioneer bio-tech company that developed and patented technology to produce commercial scale microalgal biomass. He received his Bachelor of Science from University of California Berkeley, followed by his MBA at American Graduate School of International Management. He has held several leadership positions throughout his career, including CEO of Algafeed; President/CEO of Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide (FCB) Europe & Middle East; and President of GRN of Wellington. Hollingsworth resides in Jupiter, Florida.

Erica Garwood is Founder and CEO of the Mark Garwood Foundation, an organization launched by Erica and her husband John in memory of their son who passed away from complications of substance use disorder and diabetes. Garwood has helped raise over $375,000 for educational scholarships for individuals in recovery. She is also active in several community initiatives including the Stuart chapter of The Compassionate Friends, where she is a founding member, as well as volunteering with residents of Mark Garwood Phoenix House and The Bridge Transitional Recovery House, two recovery residences in Lake Worth, Florida dedicated to the memory of her son.

Thomas J. Gallagher enjoyed a 35-year highly successful career as an investment banking executive for JP Morgan Chase & Co., CIBC Oppenheimer & Co., and Wachovia Capital Markets. After leaving Wall Street, Gallagher turned his efforts to education, a lifelong interest. He held an adjunct faculty appointment at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service; served as CEO of Secondary School Admission Test Board in Princeton, NJ; and as CEO & Publisher of ARRL, Inc. in Hartford, CT. Gallagher has served on many company and nonprofit boards throughout his career, including a current position on the board of Children’s Home Society of Florida Foundation.  Gallagher received his bachelor’s from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his master’s in business administration from the Wharton School of Business. He resides in West Palm Beach.

“We are honored to have this extraordinarily accomplished group of individuals join our Board,” said Rachel Docekal, CEO of Hanley Foundation. “Each one brings a unique perspective of  life and professional experiences to Hanley Foundation, allowing us to further expand our reach and influence in support of our mission.”
