Dr. LaTanya McNeal selected as nominee for Leadership Excellence Award

Dr. LaTanya McNeal, executive dean of Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus, is one of eight nominees for Leadership Palm Beach County’s Leadership Excellence Award.

The award recognizes exceptional Leadership Engage Program graduates who reflect Leadership Palm Beach County’s core values of connecting, collaborating and change; individuals who have made a notable contribution to improve and impact our community.

The winner will be announced at the Leadership Celebration event on June 1, 2023, at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.

“I am truly humbled and honored to be a nominee for the Leadership Palm Beach County Excellence Award,” said McNeal, who is an alumna of Leadership Palm Beach County’s Engage Class of 2022. “I appreciate PBSC’s support of my attending leadership programs internally and externally to augment my leadership skills, foster opportunities to collaborate with other professionals throughout Palm Beach County, and give back to the community. I believe in servant leadership.”

Nominations for the award are reviewed by a confidential selection committee, made up of a diverse group of Leadership Engage alumni who selects a small group of finalists. Leadership Palm Beach County’s standing president also has the prerogative to award the President’s Award to an outstanding alum of his or her choice.

McNeal is a 27-year veteran in public (K-12) and higher education and has served in many leadership roles withing the community including as a trustee with the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce; Lakeside Medical Center board member and secretary; a member of the Quality, Patient, Safety and Compliance Committee with the Health Care District of PBC; Pahokee Housing Authority board member; LORE board member; chair of the Marjorie S. Fisher advisory board for the Boys & Girls Clubs Palm Beach County; past advisory chair for the Belle Glade Teen Center Boys & Girls Clubs; advisory board member for the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center; and a member of the Pahokee Rotary Club and Glades Chamber of Commerce.

She is also a 2023 mentor with the Women in Business Academy; a member of Glades Career Readiness Roundtable; the recipient of the Inner-City Youth Golfers, Inc. 2022 Administrator of the Year award; and a charter member of Alpha Alpha Upsilon Omega Chapter, Wellington, Fla., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

McNeal is a life-long learner. After receiving her doctorate degree in Higher Education & Organizational Leadership, she pursued and recently completed a second master’s degree in Education Law from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law.
